Frequently asked questions
what is a facial?
Much like the rest of your body, your skin needs to be detoxed and rejuvenated. The goal of a facial is to exfoliate the skin, and detox any impurities to reveal youthful, and healthy skin. This is done through a combination of massaging techniques, steaming, masking, and extractions.
Each facial is customized to meet your skin’s needs.
how often should i get a facial?
We recommend booking facials once a month. However, you can discuss your skin’s needs with your esthetician to determine a treatment plan.
what are the benefits of facials?
Getting routine facials can help unclog and minimize the appearance of pores, reduce wrinkles, increase blood flow, promote cell renewal, reduce acne, reduce hyperpigmentation (dark spots), and give you a natural glow.
Should i expect to breakout after a service?
We use products with active ingredients, which can increase your skin cell turnover rate and lead to your skin “purging.” All of the toxins and excess gunk under your skin could possibly rise to the surface. We recommend increasing water intake in the 24 hours after a service to help purge toxins and avoid a breakout.
What are chemical peels?
A chemical peel is a process that exfoliates the skin and can aid with the aging process, reducing fine lines and wrinkles, eliminating dark spots, and repairing sun damage. They are performed with the intention to remove the outermost layers of skin through controlled “injury” to the skin, which creates a peeling effect.
Will i actually peel?
It depends on the peel. Lighter peels resurface with little to no visible flaking, while deeper, medical-grade peels create more noticeable peeling over several days — that's the renewal at work. We'll match the peel to your skin, your goals, and your downtime, and tell you exactly what to expect beforehand.
how many peels will i need?
Many skin concerns — hyperpigmentation, texture, acne scarring — respond best to a series rather than a single peel. Depending on the peel and your goals, we typically recommend a series of 3–6, and we offer series pricing. Your consultation determines the right plan.
can i book a vajacial after a wax?
Definitely! However, we recommend waiting 7-10 days post wax, as ingrown hairs start to show during that timeframe.
My cycle started. is it ok to get a wax?
Yes, though we recommend waiting a few days after your cycle ends to receive a wax. During and around your cycle, you are more sensitive and waxing may be more painful. If you choose to wax during your cycle, please only do so if you are experiencing light flow, and are wearing a tampon.
Am i a good candidate for laser?
Our state-of-the-art Aerolase effectively treats a number of skin concerns. A consultation is required before booking a session.
does laser hair removal hurt?
Most clients describe it as a quick, warm rubber-band snap and far more comfortable than waxing. Our Aerolase technology is designed for comfort, and smaller areas are over in just minutes.
how many laser sessions will i need?
Most clients need a series of 6–12 sessions, spaced about 4–8 weeks apart. Hair grows in cycles, and laser only treats hair in its active growth phase — so multiple sessions catch every follicle. You'll see noticeable reduction within the first few visits. We offer package pricing for full series; details are on our booking page.
is laser safe for my skin tone?
Yes — with the right technology and the right hands. Our Aerolase is effective and safe across a wide range of skin tones, and we customize every treatment to your skin specifically. Your required consultation confirms you're a great candidate before we begin.
is laser permanent?
Laser provides permanent hair reduction — most hair gone for good, and what remains grows back finer and lighter, with occasional touch-ups. For permanent removal — including gray, blonde, red, or fine hair that laser can't target — we offer electrolysis, the only FDA-recognized permanent method.
how should i prepare for a laser appointment?
Shave the area the day before or morning of (don't wax, pluck, or thread — laser needs the root intact). Avoid sun exposure and self-tanner for about two weeks before and after, and come with clean skin, free of lotion or deodorant in the treatment area. We'll cover full aftercare at your visit.
what is electrolysis & how is it different from laser?
Electrolysis is the only method of hair removal recognized by the FDA as permanent. A tiny probe treats each follicle individually, which means it works on every hair color and type — including the gray, white, blonde, and red hair that laser can't treat. Laser is faster for large areas of dark hair; electrolysis is the permanent solution for everything else. We're one of the few skin clinics in Brooklyn to offer both, so we'll always recommend what's right for you.
